Walter F. Tomczak of Viera, Florida passed away peacefully on July 28, 2021.

Walter was born in Chicago, Ill, on May 10, 1922

Walter was a member of the Greatest Generation, serving his country as an infantryman in the U.S.

Following the war, Walter returned to Chicago and joined the Sporting Goods industry as a Design Engineer-Consultant for Riddell Athletic, and later with Bike Athletic/Medalist Gladiator. In this capacity, Walter was widely recognized for his innovation and development of athletic protective gear for the football, baseball, and water ski industry, and is credited with several patents to his name.

Most important to Walter was his love for his wife Helen, his family, and his Catholic faith, followed closely by his passion for golf, cold beer, bread with dinner, and hot black coffee.

Walter is survived by his wife Helen, to whom he was married 75 years, a daughter: Lynn (Michael) Gebaide of Mt. Dora FL, and four sons: Robert (Karen) of Palmer, AK, David (Deborah) of Viera, FL, Jeffrey (Kay) of Dumfries, VA, Peter (Dora) of Fairfax Station, VA, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
