Walter Ruemer, age 84, passed away on May 20, 2014, in Kalamazoo, MI. Walter was born June 10, 1929, the son of John and Helen Ruemer, and had been a Kalamazoo area resident for many years.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-52. On May 10, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Lillian Kohler. Following in his father’s footsteps Walter became a lithographer and after his discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for The Upjohn Company. Upon his retirement, over 30 years later Walter worked his way up to the position of Marketing Manager of the Consumers Product Division. In 1989, Walter was awarded a William E. Upjohn prize in recognition of their special accomplishment to the Upjohn Company. Following his retirement, he continued to lend his graphical and marketing knowledge to several businesses in the Kalamazoo area. Walter was a former member of the Kalamazoo Elks Club and Gull Lake Country Club. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He loved to work in his yard and watch his family play in the pool.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Ruemer of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Kristin Matthew Correll of Kalamazoo and Jodi Bill Slager of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Heather Pepin, Ryan Pepin, Jacob Slager, Andrew Slager, and Lindsey Slager; and a great-grandson, Brandon Pepin.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, John Ruemer.
