Walter (Red) Shenberger Sr, 75 of Freeport passed away on May 29, 2012, at home after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. He was born Feb. 20, 1937, to Walter (Bud) Shenberger and Thelma Melester.
He married Barbara Loring on Oct. 9, 1954, in Dubuque, Iowa. He was employed at the age of 16 at Modern Plating and worked there for 24 years and 6 months. During this time he started his own part-time business Red’s Bronzing with his wife and son Rick eventually going full time working up until May 22, 2012. His wife and son Rick will continue to run the business. He loved being outdoors at his “farm” enjoying his pond, garden, fishing, and the Casinos. He loved watching his grandson race stock cars in Freeport and Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Freeport Moose Lodge for 42 years. His wife, and 4 sons, survive him: Wally Jr. (Cindy), Wayne (Cheryl), Rick (Tammy) all of Freeport, and Randy (Tootie) of Sharon Oklahoma, 7 grandchildren: Tom (Dawn), Patty, Heather (J.R.), Holly (Dave), Ricky (Tanya), Mike and Nick. 12 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Bryce, Whitney, Peyton, Brayden, Brody, Grant, Gracie, Konner, Elizabeth, Addison, and Matthew. Brothers: Willard (Rita), Sheldon (Sharon), and sister Evelyn (Bucky) Taggart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruby (Delon) Brown, and great-granddaughter Madyson Jacobs.
