Walter Roy “Wally” Funk, 74, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
Walter was born on Feb. 28, 1939, in Elkhart to Marvin and Ellen (Grieb) Funk. He married Terri (Simcox) Sage on Dec. 28, 1988, in Elkhart.
Terri survives, as well as their children, Scott M. Funk of Jones, Mich., Darci Funk of Duneden, Fla., Billie Jan (Kevin) Owens of Middlebury, Nicole (Mike) Jones of Anderson and James Sage of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings Roberta (Dave) Honeywell of Pittsburg, Bill Funk of Elkhart and Julie (Bill Reader) Crow; and his mother, Ellen Funk of Elkhart. Walter was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Funk, and daughter, Ginger Kozelka.
“Wally,” as he was known by friends and co-workers, was a lifelong resident of Elkhart. He was a 1957 graduate of Elkhart High School and worked for the Selmer Co. for 46 years. In his youth, he was a bag boy at the former Wilts at Easy Shopping Center. He was a member of Goshen Moose Lodge, where he loved to play euchre. He enjoyed working in his yard and feeding the birds. Walter was a loving husband, father, loyal friend and a doting “Papa Walt” to his grandchildren. Many will miss him.
