Walter Leroy Wells, 74, of Beatrice, NE suddenly passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his home. He was born June 19, 1942 to Walter Wells and Amelia (Kufeldt) Wells in Lexington, Nebraska. He graduated from Concordia High School in Seward, NE in 1960 and then he received his Associate’s degree from Concordia College in St. Paul, MN. He was employed with the City of Lincoln as a City Planner for 30 years. On June 9th, 1973 he married Phyllis Stanard. Together they had two children and resided in Hallam, Nebraska. As a part of his community he served on the Hallam town board, community committees and was a youth group leader for his church. When he resided in Lexington, he was a fundamental part of their AA program.

Sports have always been a part of Walt’s life. In high School he played football and baseball. After college, he coached softball and baseball. He enjoyed attending kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and activities. Throughout his life he was an avid Husker fan.

His children and grandchildren always knew he loved and supported them.

Walt is survived by his children, Brett (Rondalin) Wells, Beatrice, NE; Meagan (Mike) Wallinga, Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Madelynn and Triston Wells, Camille, Calvin and Reese Hennerberg, Abigail, Allison and Anna Wallinga; sisters Carolyn Wells, Denver, CO and Barbara (Ray) Dickey, Arlington, TX; nephews Steward (Karen) Dickey, Arlington, TX and Scott (Cynthia) Dickey, Woodinville, WA; Phyllis Hershner, Utica, NE.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter Wells, mother Amelia “Millie” and step-father Harry “Howard” Nicks.
