Walter L. Frye, 84, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born November 5, 1923, in Naples, the son of Clarence and Mary Bessie Post Frye. He married DeLois Walls on Sept. 5, 1946, in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, DeWalt Frye of Jacksonville; two daughters, Sandy (husband, Mark) Langdon and Cheryl (husband, Gary) Turner, both of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Lezley Booth of Springfield, Laura Seabrook of Ohio, DeWalt Ray Frye, II of Florida, and Andy Turner and Angela Turner, both of Jacksonville; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn (husband, Pasquale) Scialla of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Adora Frye, one daughter-in-law, Karel Frye; two brothers, Kenneth Frye and Ray Frye (surviving wife, Minnie of Indiana); and two sisters, Louise Hetterscheidt and Grace Farmer.
Mr. Frye had worked for Rowe’s LP Gas in Jacksonville, and had also built houses in the Jacksonville area. He was raised in the Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theatre during World War II. Mr. Frye was a member of the VFW, and enjoyed collecting and antiquing.
