Walter J. LaMondy, 85, went to be with our Lord on Monday, November 22, 2021.

He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy LaMondy; father and mother “Jim” and “Jane” LaMonda; son Jay LaMondy; sister “Vangie” Morgan and husband Tony; grandparents: Emma and James LaMonda on his father’s side, and Tomás and Josefita Martinez on his mother’s side.

Walter is survived by his daughters: Colette Bristol and husband Greg, Theresa Archuleta; sister “Ben” Duran; step-brother Rafael Radillo and wife Martha; grandchildren: Dustin LaMondy and wife Savanna, Chelsea Bristol; and great-grandchild Elijah LaMondy.

Walter was born on July 19, 1936, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to James “Jim” and Juanita “Jane” LaMonda. He was the middle of three children. He quit high school to join the Marines, having lied about his age to do so. After serving in the Korean war, he married Dorothy Torres on May 13, 1961.

He worked for Gizmo downtown for many years until 1975, when he and Dorothy purchased Liberty Jewelry and Loan Co. which was located on 6th and Central. He learned to make and repair jewelry as his craft. After working as a pawn broker and jeweler for twenty-six years, he enjoyed going to the casino with his friends, fishing, photobombing vacation photos, annoying his family by listening to yodeling music, and watching old westerns on TV. Gunsmoke was his favorite show. After he watched each episode about 500 times each, he decided it was time to go, and made his final ride into the sunset himself.
