Walter H. Wolf, 78, of Woodland Avenue in South Bend, IN, whose life we celebrate, left us at 6:25pm Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 18, 1927 to the late Arthur A. and Mary A. (Burner) Wolf in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents; one son, Timothy A. Wolf; one sister; and four brothers also preceded him in death.

Mr. Wolf retired from the University of Notre Dame on April 1, 1989. He worked for 44 years, as an operating engineer, at the power plant. Walter had attended Washington Clay High School; and graduated from the International Correspondent School of Engineering.

On September 25, 1948, he married Patricia Nell Humphrey at Olive Chapel Church in New Carlisle, IN. She survives.

Along with his wife of almost 57 years, he is survived by one daughter, Christy L. (James W.) Ebersole of New Carlisle, IN; one son, Walter H. Cubby (Barbara J.) Wolf II of Westminster, CO; one daughter-in-law, Sandra K. Wolf of Osceola, IN; eleven grandchildren, Wendy (Jimmy) Surgeon; Tina (Jason) Colglazier; Susan (Bryan) Kniola; Peter Wolf; Megan (Joseph) Aquino; Brian Wolf; John (Barbara) Wolf; Joseph Wolf; Larry Cox; Lisa Wolf; and Lynn Wolf..

Mr. Wolf was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church in South Bend, where he was on the board of trustees at the church and was also known as the official handyman of the church. He was a member of the board of directors of Northwest United Methodist Day Care Center; and American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle, IN. Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and traveling. Walter leaves us with lots of loving and happy memories. Patricia and Walter loved and bickered for almost 57 years of marriage, and loved every bit of it. He was known as grandpa Walt to all the Northwest United Methodist Day Care children; and to all his great grandkids, he was known as grampie. He was an all around good guy who was loved by all. His family wishes to thank all the staff at Millers Merry Manor in New Carlisle for all their loving care during Walters stay with them.
