Walter F. Holden, 86, of Plainville, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain.  He was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Helen (Murtaugh) Holden.

Walter was born and raised in Springfield, Vermont on April 25, 1924, one of three sons of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Day) Holden.  He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen, proudly serving his country during W.W. II.  Shortly after his discharge in 1945, he and Helen started their family together, while living in Canton.  He was employed by Pratt and Whitney until his retirement, and was a member of the VFW Madeley Roberts Post #547, since moving to Plainville close to twenty years ago.  Walter was a kind and gentle man, whose smile and infectious zest for life created a wide circle of friends.

He leaves his loving daughters and their husbands, Kimberley and Bob Wolfe of Plainville and Darleen and Kevin Butler of Southington, his daughter-in-law, Brenda Holden of Winsted, his grandchildren, Krystal Heller and her husband, Ryan, Megan Wolfe, Kelsey Butler, Paul Holden, Jr., and Jennifer DeSanti and her husband, Craig; his great-grandchildren, Abigail Mills and Dylan DeSanti; his brothers, Charlie and Al Grennon of VT; his stepchildren and extended family; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son, Paul Holden and his grandson, Christopher Butler.

Walter’s family expresses their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Brittany Farms and the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain, for their compassionate care shown to Walter during his time with them.
