Walter (Walt) Ernest Mitton, Sr.
October 11, 1937 – July 12, 2021

Walt passed on to be with God on Monday, July 12, 2021. He died at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Fl. Walt was from Goshen, NY, and moved to Port St. Lucie in 1980.

He was the son of Arnold Ernest Mitton and Susan May Carroll Mitton. He was born at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh, NY on Monday, October 11, 1937. He was retired from 36-year employment with the USPS and a 12+ year employment with Publix Store #855, where he loved both his co-workers and customers.

Walt was a veteran of the Army National Guard.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Florence, Catherine, and Audrey, and his brother Benjamin. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol Ann Howell Mitton; daughter Bonnie Ann Dombroski and husband Ron of Poughkeepsie, NY; son Walter E. Mitton, Jr. and partner Tom of Jensen Beach, Fl; daughter Kelly Sue Sneddon and husband Michael of Woodbury, MN; brother Rodney (Rod) W. Mitton of Bloomingburg, NY and his wife Catherine Depew-Mitton.

Four grandsons Corey McCuen and wife Michelle; Cole Wicklund, Reed Wicklund, and Andrew Spencer. Four granddaughters Christa Wicklund, Alyssa Spencer, Alison Wenzel, and Abbey Wicklund. Great grandsons Bennett Zadow and John Zabriskie, Jr. Several nieces and nephews as well as his best friends Richard (Dick) Holmberg and Bonnie Johnson-Holmberg.

In Goshen, NY, Walt was a graduate of GHS, Class of ’57 – excelling in track, baseball, basketball, soccer, and football, and a volunteer fireman of Goshen’s Cataract Engine and Hose Company. In Florida, Walt was a member of the St. Lucie Catholic Church and volunteered with the church’s soup kitchen.

Walt will be remembered for his love of country music, any food you placed before him, “that’s the best I ever had…and I’m not kidding!” Lastly, he will always be remembered for being the Green Bay Packer’s #1 fan outside of Wisconsin!
