Walter Carsen “Poppy” Heath, Sr., 85 of Charlestown, MD, died Tuesday, July 9, 2013 surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Camden, NJ, on January 18, 1928, he was the son of the late William Clifford Heath and the late Amanda Augusta (Shellhardt) Heath. He was the last of their 12 children.
Mr. Heath proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a machine tool and die maker, working for Wiley and RMR.
He was a member and past master of Union Lodge #48 AF & AM of Elkton, MD and Dual Member of Harmony Lodge #53 AF & AM of Port Deposit, MD. He was a member of the Shriners, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York and Scottish Rites, Job’s Daughters and a Past Associate Bethel Guardian of #58, Elkton, MD.
He had a passion for music, enjoyed tinkering and piddling in his garage, cutting the grass and talking with people. Most of all he loved and lived for his family.
Survivors include his loving wife: Theresa Heath of Charlestown, MD; their 5 children: Bertha L. (Jenny) Keen of Conowingo, MD, Judith A. Gonce of Perryville, MD, Walter C. Heath, Jr. of Charlestown, MD, William C. Heath of North East, MD and Patricia L. Heath of Charlestown, MD; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and his extended family: Noelle Vercleyen.
