Walter Albin Johnson, 78, of Cromwell, passed away on Wednesday, January 14th at his home after a long battle with an illness. Born in Cromwell, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Jenny (Gaffney) Johnson. Walt attended Vinal Technical School, was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War and was employed by A. N. Pierson Florist in Cromwell for many years. Like his brother, he was an avid baseball player in his younger days. When Walt was relaxing, he enjoyed watching baseball games on TV and listening to Polish music on the radio. Walt is survived by his son, Larry Johnson; his two sisters, Wanda Rochette and her husband, Burt and Betty Behm; and a sister in law, Jane Johnson, all of Cromwell. He is also leaves three nephews, Jack Rochette and his wife, Sue of Woodbridge, George Behm of Cromwell, and Bob Johnson and his wife, Debbie of East Haddam; a niece, Linda (Johnson) Spada and her husband, Manny of Cromwell; three great nieces, Jennifer (Rochette) Hornby and her husband, Niel of Beacon Falls, Sherry Spada of Cromwell and Kelly Johnson of East Haddam; and four great nephews, John (J.B.) Rochette of Woodbridge, Ryan and Shaun Spada of Cromwell and Brian Johnson of East Haddam. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Raymond S. Johnson; a brother in law, George Behm and a niece, Sandra Behm.
