Walter Abraham Dagle, 88, of Cromwell, loving husband and soulmate of Dorothea (Johnson) Dagle for 61 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8th at Middlesex Hospital. Born on February 13, 1920 in Cromwell, he was the son of the late Dalis and Emma (Kennedy) Dagle and had lived in Cromwell all of his life. Walter served in the United States Marine Corps and was on duty in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He then served in the Solomon Islands, home of the “Black Sheep” and was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sgt. (TW). He worked for the Middletown Press for over 40 years before retiring as pressroom foreman and was a member of the American Legion Carlson-Sjovall Post 105 in Cromwell.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard B. Dagle and his wife, Pauline of Lowell, MA and Thomas Jeffrey Dagle and his wife, Julie of East Hampton; a brother, Everett A. Dagle of Cromwell; three grandchildren, Jennifer Grimshaw and her husband Alexander of Columbia, Lindsey Gionfriddo and her husband David of East Hampton, and Kimberly Dagle of MA; five step-grandchildren, Julie Fisher, Robert Zukas, Jr., Susan Eickenhorst, Lawrence Zukas, and Virginia Criscitelli; a great grandchild, Collin Jeffrey Grimshaw of Columbia and several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his daughter, Carolyn Dagle, as well as seven brothers and two sisters.
