William Garland Robertson, 83, of Suffolk, VA passed away on March13, 2024.He was the son of the late, M. Van and Edna Robertson. He waspreceded in death by sisters, Janet Bishop and Linda Potamos.Born andraised in Suffolk, VA, Garland graduated from Holland High School in 1960.Garland retired from VDOT after more than 30 years of service. Hebegan his career in the Sign Shop, worked on the Survey Party and as anInspector before becoming the Maintenance Superintendent of theWhaleyville Area Headquarters from which he retired in 1997. He wasproud of his hardworking crew and their accomplishments.Garland loved to fish, hunt, and watch Western TV shows; his favoritebeing Gunsmoke with Miss Kitty and Matt Dillion. His jovial personality wasinfectious and would lighten up a room. Before becoming debilitated fromhealth conditions in his late 50’s, in his spare time he could always befound at an auction or working outside his home—in the yard, on thevehicles, or piddling in his garage. His can-do attitude and determinationwas apparent when tackling any task that needed to be accomplished.Garland is survived by his wife of 60 years, Faye S. Robertson,daughters, Robin Wilson (Ron) and Laurie Wood (Scott);grandchildren, Heather Wilson, Sam Wilson, and Tyler Wood;brother, Morris Robertson and wife Wilma, brother-in-law, Chris Potamos and numerous nieces and nephews.
