W. Carl “Bud” Brune, 88, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born June 16, 1920 at his family home in Jacksonville, IL; the son of William C. and Dorothy Henze Brune. He married Rosalee Lowry on September 13, 1941 at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Chris Ellen Brune Puri (husband, Tony) of New Jersey and formerly of Singapore; a brother, Warren Brune (wife, Norma) of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Lowry and her husband, Charles, who was a brother of his wife, Rosalee.
Mr. Brune attended eight grades at Salem Lutheran School when it was a one-room schoolhouse. As a child, he was given the nickname “Bud” by his grandfather, Christoph, who always referred to him as my “Buddy”. He was a 1938 graduate of Jacksonville High School and a graduate of Brownâ??s Business College in Jacksonville. He was employed briefly in the office of DeWitt Motor Company prior to joining Eli Bridge Company where he served 42 years. He retired from Eli Bridge in 1986 as an officer of the company. He enjoyed carpentry as a hobby and used those skills to design and build their first home. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served in a variety of roles to benefit the church and the school.
