Vyrle L. DeVoss, 92, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on August 2, 2008, at the Allen House in Atlantic.
Vyrle was born the son of Ralph and Ruth (Westerlund) DeVoss on December 5, 1915, on their farm near Morton Mills, Iowa. He grew up with this two brothers George and Dean and a sister, Vernita, on the family farm. Vyrle graduated from the Villisca High School in 1934 and attended Diesel Engineering School in Des Moines. During the next few years, he worked on diesel engines on gas pipelines in Kansas and Texas before returning to farm in Iowa.
On March 16, 1941, Vyrle was united in marriage to Naomi F. Scheef in Walnut, Iowa. To this union were born four children: Dianne, Edward, Lindy and Gary. The couple began farming near Morton Mills, and then moved to Walnut and Elliott. In 1956, they settled on a farm three miles west of Atlantic.
