Vivian Esther (Smith) of San Francisco, Ca. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 98.5 years old to eternally join her devoted husband, Ernest G. Friez, Jr. Survived and lovingly remembered by her devoted daughter Susan A. (Friez) Isble and granddaughter, Cailin S. Butler; cousin Diana (Prevatt) Sangston of Livermore, Ca., and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews in Florida and on the East Coast. Preceded in death by parents Chester E. Smith and Alma (Prevatt) Smith and siblings; Marguerite (Smith) Salzberg, Herman Smith, Chester Smith, Anna E. (Smith) Sistrunk, and Emory C. Smith.

Vivian was born in Seville, Fl. on February 27, 1922. Married Ernest “Ernie” G. Friez, Jr. on May 4, 1946. Vivian lived a full 98.5 years!  Working at resorts on the East Coast before arriving on the West Coast, Vivian (and Ernie) enjoyed meeting numerous people along the way who they shared many fun times together with before settling in the Marina District of San Francisco, Ca. where they raised their daughter, Susan Ann Friez. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Vivian was a cherished friend to many and always put others before herself. Never liking much attention on herself, she received great joy in giving to others.

The last decade of her life, she lived gracefully with dementia. Words cannot express our gratefulness to the devotion of her primary caregiver of 10 years, Mary Ann Slane; our gratitude and appreciation to James Kurtz, Jennifer Krook and Ron Mori; the ongoing love and support from neighbors, and to Alameda Healthcare & Wellness Center who cared for her in her final days.
