Vito “Vic” Villaraza Vergara, born in Tandaay, Camerines Sur, Philippines on June
6, 1932 and passed away on May 16, 2020 in Huntsville, Alabama. From his
childhood humble beginnings in the Philippines, Vic joined the US Army and went
on to long and dedicated military career which included fighting in both the
Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement from the Army, Vic obtained his
bachelor’s and master’s degrees despite only finishing his 9 th grade year in high
school and went on to a career in civil service. After his retirement, Vic enjoyed
his passions, golfing, bowling, dancing, gardening and spending time with his
family and friends.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio and Severa Vergara, his
siblings; Soledad Vergara, Edmundo Vergara, Alfredo “Fred” Vergara, Jesus
“Jessie” Vergara, Felicisimo “Fel” Vergara, and Eustaquia “Taty” Vergara
Landagan. He is survived by his brother, Francisco “Frank” Vergara, wife, Linda K.
Vergara, his children, Vera Vergara Bullard (Kevin), Vic Vince Vergara and
grandchildren, Alex Vergara, Victor Ellis, Daniel Ellis and River Vergara.
From a barrio in the Philippines to the USA, Dad, you have truly lived your life.
You fought for our country, danced with a queen and broken bread with a king
and even played poker with a movie star. You are and will always be our hero.
