Virginia V. Jelinski, 88, following a brief illness, quietly passed away on Friday, August 1, at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Virginia was born on January 28, 1926 to the late Joseph and Stella (Kitkowski), Chmielewski.
On September 27, 1947 she married Joseph T. Jelinski, who preceded her in death. Virginia was also preceded in death by her five sisters, Sophie Rzeszewski, Josephine Chmielewski, Marie Chmielewski, Martha Juhas, and Alice Janowiak, and two brothers, Leonard Chmielewski and Stanley Chmielewski.
Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte (Harry) Striker of Oak Harbor, Ohio and Janet (Craig) Siders of South Bend, six grandchildren, Thomas (LeAnn Schemrich) Striker, Toledo, Ohio, Lisa (James) Reaper, Oak Harbor, Ohio, John (Mandi) Striker, Danville, Virginia, Paul Striker, Oak Harbor, Ohio, Emily (Gareth) Rees, LaPorte, Indiana, Alison (Dean Loging) Siders, South Bend, Indiana and 11 great-grandchldren, Sydney Striker, Rhiannon, Morgan, and Stephen Reaper, Seth, Makenna, and Hollie Striker, Kegan, Gavin, and Madeleine Rees, and Rosalie Loging.
Virginia was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all aspects of their lives, whether it be academics, sports, theater, music or dance. Busia we love you and know you will be missed by all whose lives you touched.
Lovingly called Busia by all her family and friends she was well known for her yummy baked goodies and Polish coffee cakes. She was a friend to all and was always there to lend a helping hand.
Virginia was a member of the St. Stanislaus Choir, Apostleship of Prayer Society, Polish Woman’s Alliance and Bethany Ladies.
She was employed at Wilson Bros, and also worked at Don and Sophie’s Market and Don’s Liquor Oasis.
The Family would like to thank the Staff in the Progressive Care Center of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for all their care and concern during this last week of her life. Also, to her neighbors who were always looking out for her after the passing of her husband.
