Virginia Tedrow Ryder, 91, of Colorado Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in Colorado Springs. She was born August 23, 1925 in Pueblo, Colorado to the late Lester Edward. and Jessie Elizabeth (Meek) Tedrow. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William Henry Ryder, M.D..
Virginia was a graduate of Central High School and the Minnequa School of Nursing in Pueblo, Colorado. Following her nursing training Virginia worked in Pueblo as a cadet nurse at Corwin Hospital. In 1948. she married Dr. Bill Ryder and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where Bill completed his residency. In 1951 Bill was called to serve in the army in Korea and Virginia moved back to Colorado to be with family in Pueblo and Colorado Springs. After Bill’s discharge from the military, Bill and Virginia settled in Colorado Springs where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Virginia, or Vee as she was known to her many friends, led a busy and accomplished life. She and Bill raised six children born over a period of thirteen years. Her interests were eclectic and varied. She was an accomplished pianist, and found great joy in accompanying her children, and grandchildren, and their classmates in school productions, solo and ensemble contests, and informal gather ‘round the piano sing-a-longs.
Virginia and Bill both had a passion for the land and culture of the Southwest, and included numerous trips to that part of the country among their travels.
Virginia was a strong woman, with a quick wit, and an amazing sense of humor. She was kind, exceedingly smart, and genuine in everything she did.
Virginia is survived by her children Joan Ferguson (Harley), Eleanor Polich (Herman), and Rob (Shannon), John (Debi Kinder), Ted (Julie), and Louise Ryder. She is survived by 3 siblings, Lester Tedrow, Jessie Edwards and Chuck (Kathy) Tedrow, her sister-in-law Viola Nicholson, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
