Virginia S. Barnes, 88, of Anderson, born June 21, 1929 in Madison, Indiana went to be with her Lord on September 8, 2017.

She was a Teacher for Anderson Community Schools, retiring in 1990 from Valley Grove School and was a founding director of Sowers of Seeds Counseling, INC. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was a part of the Prayer Ministry. She volunteered for St. John’s Hospice Program, CASA, AA with 31 years of sobriety and did drug and alcohol counseling at the Madison County Jail.

Ginny is survived by her children, Jan (Gayland) Swaim, John (LeeAnn) Barnes; grandchildren, Shonne Swearingen, Shanna Swearingen, Darci (Jim) Miller, Derryk Swearingen, Justin Barnes, Casey Barnes, great-grandchildren, Megan Swearingen, Morgan Cornett, Kassie Miller, James Miller II, Janna Swearingen, Kevin McCord II, Tyler Tipton, Sherry Swearingen and Jacob Brooks; 4 great-great-grandchilddren; several nieces, nephews, special friends and cats.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Williams Taylor; father, Clifton Stewart; husband of 27 years, Gene C. Barnes; son, James Barnes; sister, Wanda (Harry) DeVol.
