Virginia R. Haas 93, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, October 15th, 2021 at Cobblestone Health Campus. She was born November 14th, 1927 to Ben Houk and Ruby Stephens Houk. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wanda Hofmann and Betty Jean Austin; one brother, Max Houk; and her husband Paul Haas. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Marlene Haas of Aurora, CO, and Kenny and Terri Haas of Terre Haute; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Ron Curtis of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Brian Haas, Laura Gundy (Dakota), Jana Kroehne (Dave), Karen McDonald (Jim), Stacey Young, and Aaron Curtis (Jessi); and ten great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Riley High School and married her high school sweetheart in 1945. Paul farmed for many years with his brother Richard. Virginia performed all the duties of a farmer’s wife including the bookkeeping. In the 70’s, they transitioned to coal mining where Virginia again did the bookkeeping and payroll. In her spare time, she became an avid bowler. For nearly three decades, she and her bowling team went to national tournaments all over the USA. Summers were spent at their cabin on Caliper Lake in Ontario, Canada where they both loved to fish and enjoyed hosting family and friends.

They were members of the Indiana State University Varsity Club and enjoyed being season ticket holders for both men’s and women’s basketball – a passion she continued until 2020.
