Virginia Ossanna (nee Comandella), age 94 of Hammond, passed away on September 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Wanting to stay at home and honoring her wishes, she spent her last few years living with her daughter Karen and husband Ronald both at their home in Michigan and at her own home in Hammond with granddaughter Kristen. She was born on April 15, 1924.
She is survived by her four children, Richard (Carol) Ossanna, Kathleen (Kenneth) Benich, Jeffrey (Kathy) Ossanna and Karen (Ronald) Gennarelli; loving grandchildren Lynnea, Kimberly, Denise, Kenneth, Kristen, Carrie, Tony, Matthew, Jason, Josh and Tyler; great grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher, Delaney, Kyle, Michael, Samantha, Teresa, Michael, Liam and Isabella.
Numerous nieces and nephews, loving Sister Gloria (late James) Shiel. Preceded in death by her loving husband Mario, parents Giovanni and Elvira Comandella, sister Elizabeth (Alfred) Bianucci, brothers Louie Comandella, Frank (late Louise) Comandella, and nephew Raymond Comandella.
Virginia is now at peace with her husband Mario. Virginia was a loving and generous soul who enjoyed life, family, friends, bingo and bowling. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Wive’s club, East Chicago Council. Virginia was very athletic and competitive. Virginia was a source of inspiration to others in her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice in Virgie’s name.
