Virginia May Elser, 92, of Elkhart, passed away from natural causes at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.

She was born in Chicago on Aug. 13, 1922, to the late William and Mae Belle (Wright) Sutherland.

She later married Robert W. Elser on April 25, 1942, in Chicago. He passed away in Elkhart in 2005.

Surviving are her daughter, Jeanne (Ralph) Silver of Bristol; a daughter-in-law, Janet Elser of Carrabelle, Fla.; grandchildren Donna and Russell Elser and Wendy and Wayne Silver; great-grandchildren Lindsey Silver, John Albanese and Chris Piersall; and great-great-grandson Jack Piersall.

A brother, William Sutherland Jr., and a son, Robert Elser Jr., have preceded Virginia in death.

Virginia spent most of her adult life in clerical or secretarial positions, working at such places as the Xerox Corp. in Chicago, and spending 16 years as the church secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart. She will be best remembered for her kind and benevolent nature. Virginia accepted God’s love for her and freely gave that love, peace and acceptance that she was filled with to others as well. She was also a member of Grace Bible Church in Elkhart.
