Virginia Reeves Jones

BRIGHAM CITY, UTAH – Virginia Reeves Jones, 86, died peacefully at her home in Brigham City on Friday, November 11, 2016 following an extended illness.
She was born December 21, 1929 in El Dorado, Arkansas, a daughter of Valena Margaret McCain and Walter Hughes Reeves.
Virginia graduated from El Dorado High School where many of her lifelong friendships were made. While attending the University of Arkansas, she earned her degree in Business Administration and was an officer of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. In addition, she was selected as a member of the homecoming court and Mortar Board.
She taught elementary school in Arkansas and was also employed at the El Dorado Junior High School. Virginia worked as a bridal consultant with a prominent department store in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a partner in the firm of B. W. Reeves and Co. Department Store in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Virginia Reeves married Charles Wayne Jones on July 16, 1955, in El Dorado, Arkansas. Prior to moving to Brigham City in 1958, the new couple lived in El Dorado and Shumaker, Arkansas, and Fort Worth, Texas.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brigham City, where she served several years as Church Clerk. She was appointed to the Brigham City Library Board for two terms.
She was proud of her Southern heritage and loved her University of Arkansas Razorbacks. As she raised her family here in the Utah mountains, she developed lifelong friendships within the community and a love for her Utah home. She belonged to a fun bridge club with a group of very special friends and remained an avid Utah Jazz fan.
As a mother, she was encouraging, loving and supportive – full of playfulness and imagination. Her love of music, dancing, travel, movies and books was contagious and opened a world of possibility for her children.
It was as a Grandmother that her true calling was revealed. She adored her grandchildren and loved nothing better than hosting family celebrations or special weekends just for the grandkids. In later years, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her comfort and a great source of pride.
Her strength of spirit was remarkable, with a deep faith and love of her church, even composing her own original hymn for her children, “Let Me Be Strong for Jesus”. No physical or emotional challenge could temper her love of life or her love of the people around her. Her faith in the Lord sustained her through her exceptional life.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Charles, two sons and one daughter; Jeffrey W. Jones (Lisa) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Scott A. Jones (Karen) of Torrance, California; Carol M. Sheets (Paul) of Bountiful, Utah; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. John R. Markeson and his staff for their compassionate care of Virginia throughout the years.
