Virginia J. Stalcup Riggs, 98, died April 18, 2009 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born April 7, 1911 in Oaktown, Indiana, and resided in Carmel. She lived in the Anderson area most of her life. Virginia graduated from Oaktown High School and Purdue University.
Virginia retired in 1976 as the Director of Food service for the Anderson Community Schools. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Altrusa, Christian Women’s Fellowship and the School of Food Service Association.
She is survived by her children: Nancy and husband, Joe Crouse of Carmel; Betty Hunt of Speedway and Jim Riggs of Chesterfield. Grandchildren: Jan Roy, Gary Crouse, Lori Gunter, Tim Crouse, Amy Hunter, Betsy Hiller, Bob Hunt, Jenny Clayton and Julie Gleckey. 23 Great grandchilren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Everett Riggs. Parents: John and Pearl Sproat Stalcup. Brother: John K. Stalcup. Son: Ronald Riggs. Great grandchild: Joli Hiller.
