Virginia G. Stape, 94, of Salem, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at 2:05 PM, at Essex of Salem II. She was born May 22, 1920 in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Clyde M. and Anna E. (Shaffer) Sloan. Virginia worked as a sales clerk at the former Ames and Hecks Stores. She also worked for Attorney Lewis Kober as a legal secretary. She was a member of the First Friends Church, the Encouragers Sunday School class and worked in the nursery. Virginia was also a member of Salem Retirees, R.S.V.P., and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Her husband Raymond G. Stape, whom she married July 18, 1942, preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Karen A. (William) McElwee of Salem; a son, Keith A. (Janet) Stape of Franksville, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Pamela (Jonathan) Dow and Christopher (Anna) Stape; and four great grandchildren. Two great granddaughters, Amanda and Catherine Dow; two sisters, Dorothy Wilcher and Dolly English; and a brother, Robert Sloan also preceded her in death.
