Virginia (Hilton) “Peg” Cooper, 102, of Lostant, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Heritage Woods of Ottawa, where she had made her home for the last five years.

Peg was born May 15, 1918 in Deer Park Township to Lloyd and Ruth (Diebel) Hilton. She attended Deer Park Country School and was a graduate of Ottawa High School. She married Clifford Cooper on December 15, 1939 at her parent’s home in Deer Park Township. They farmed for 35 years, retiring to Tonica.

After raising her children, Peg went to work as a cook at the nursing home in Tonica and later transferred to Heritage Manor, Peru. She then became a cook and baker at the Village Inn in Tonica, where she was well known for her pies.Peg was a member of the Deer Park Community Church and the Ladies Mission Society. She was a former 4-H leader, president of Tonica AARP, member of the Putman County Senior Center and a member of the former Twenty Century Club. She also belonged to many euchre card clubs, bridge clubs and loved to play bingo.

She was a sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.Survivors include three children, Kathleen (George Sr.) Hauser of Texas and Montana and Roger “Bruce” (Dianne) Cooper and Karen (Don) Breckenridge both of Lostant; six grandchildren, Brenda Othick, George Hauser Jr., Dawn (Jeff) Schnetzler, Daniel (Susan) Breckenridge, Sheri (Jeremy) Henry and Heather (Jim) Curcuruto; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; her brother, Roger (Linda) Hilton of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford on March 15, 1994; her parents; her sister, Phyllis Rowe; three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law and a grandson-in-law, Mark Othick.
