MELBOURNE, FL: Virginia ‘Ginny’ (Koufopoulos) Carnevale died peacefully Tuesday February 5, 2013 in Melbourne Florida with her daughter Stephanie by her side. She was the wife of the late George ‘Dube’ Carnevale who died in May 1990.
Born in Fitchburg Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Starvoula (Papas) Koufopoulos. She and her six brothers and sisters were raised in Lynn where Ginny spent most of her young adulthood. After graduating from Lynn Classical High School, she worked for twenty years as an executive administrative assistant at General Electric.
After marrying Dube, she moved to Beverly where she enjoyed many years of co-ownership and working alongside Dube at their restaurants, Carbone’s Lunch and then at the Post Office Diner. Ginny’s greatest joy however, was her son, Michael, and her daughter Stephanie, with whom she dedicated so much of her life to supporting, loving, and encouraging them in all their endeavors.
Ginny moved to Florida in 2006 and soon became the inspiration for Ginny’s Place, an assisted living facility for women, owned and operator by Stephanie and her husband Scott Durgin. Seven years later, with Ginny as its most charismatic resident, Ginny’s Place Assisted Living Facilities, has expanded to three area homes in Melbourne Florida, providing loving care and assistance to women. Ginny was the heart and soul of Ginny’s Place providing friendship, companionship and laughter to all she came in contact with.
Ginny is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mia Carnevale and her granddaughter Sophia of Greensboro North Carolina; her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Scott Durgin and granddaughter Carly and grandson Nicholas of Melbourne Florida; her many nieces and nephews, friends near and far, and her dedicated and loving staff at Ginny’s Place.
