Virgil Lee Helmlinger, 65, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital. Virgil was born on March 16, 1942, in Elkhart, Indiana to Raymond George and Lucy Viola (Deckman) Helmlinger. He was a Union Electrician with the I.E.B.W. #153 of 30 years.

On September 30, 1961, Virgil Lee married Karen E. Lightner who survives. Surviving with his wife Karen is his son, Lee Karl (Luisa) Helmlinger of Mishawaka; a sister, Hazel Rose McNeely of Cassopolis, Michigan; three brothers, Michael David (Debra Ann) Helmlinger of Houston, Texas, Ray Kenneth Helmlinger of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Arthur Paul (Mary) Helmlinger of Edwardsburg, Michigan; and a nephew, Daniel (Andrea) Flores of Mishawaka. His parents; a sister, Norma Jean Chew; and brothers, George Lewis and John Edward Helmlinger all preceded him in death.

Virgil was a naturalist and a member of the Arbor Day Society. He was a Baptized Jehovah Witness for over 50 years. Everyone knew Virgil by the smile on his face.
