Violet Rose (Behymer) Swan, the daughter of George E. and Elma E. (McCarthy) Behymer was born October 26, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa. She attended Oskaloosa Schools in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Violet was united in marriage to Howard A. Swan on March 25, 1941 in Oskaloosa. From 1941 until 1959 they lived in rural northwest and rural southeast Jasper County. In 1959, they moved to Newton, Iowa. Violet worked in the factory at the Vernon Company, where she retired in January of 1985.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 1997; two daughters Zada in infancy and Phyllis Otto in 1968; two brothers, Jack and Arthur; and a sister, Carrie. Those left to honor her memory are her son, Harold A. Swan, Sr. of Oskaloosa, Iowa; her five grandchildren, Marc Chapman of Minnesota; Karlene Gifford, Harold A. Swan, Jr., Eric Swan, and Ron Burns all of Newton, Iowa; her eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Claris Behymer of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Clair Behymer of Belfast, Maine, and George Beyhmer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and her two sisters, Betty Steward of Belfast, Maine and Elizabeth Behymer of New Jersey.
