Violet R. Taugher, age 93, of Salem, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living in Salem where she had been a resident since October 2013. She was born March 16, 1923, in Salem, Ohio, the last of eight children of the late Michael and Nicolina (nee Colian) DeRienzo. She was a 1941 graduate of Salem High School. On May 15, 1944, Violet married Leo Taugher and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before Leo died on November 5, 2010.
Violet was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Trustee and Honorary Member of Our Lady’s Purse, and former member and Past President of the Women’s Association of the Salem Golf Club.
Violet and her seven siblings were all former owners of DeRienzos Italian Restaurant where she had worked for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Taugher; a son, Leo J. Taugher II, who died on February 2, 2015; five brothers, Dominic, John, Henry, Albert A., and William DeRienzo, and two sisters, Ida Parker and Mary Eakin.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan T. (William) Gregg of University Heights, Ohio, two grandchildren, Benjamin J. Gregg of Cleveland, Ohio, and Christine G. (Jonathan) Baynham of New Orleans, Louisiana.
