Violet Marie McBride, 91, of Hudson Lake in New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away in her home Sunday, May 7, 2006. Violet was born on February 13, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois to William E. and Hulda (Minnich) Vogel, and had lived on Hudson Lake since 1973. She retired from Western Electric as a supervisor after many years. On October 28, 1933, Violet married Cornelius Thomas McBride, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1996.
Surviving is her daughter, Joyce Ellyn (Russell) Mendez of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Rochelle Mendez of New Carlisle, Ramon Mendez of Chicago, and Marlene (Michael) Smolek of Chicago. A granddaughter, Darlene Mendez preceded her in death on January 1, 1997. Also surviving is a great grandson, Nicholas Smolek; her brother, Gerald Frank Vogel of Hudson Lake, New Carlisle; nieces and nephews, Cathy (Richard) Roush of New Carlisle, Bonnie (David) Payne of New Carlisle, Kevin Vogel of New Carlisle, Keith Vogel of Mishawaka, Indiana, Gail (Scott) Staerkel of Knox, Indiana; and many great nieces and nephews.
Violet was a member of the P.T.A. in Chicago, local and district councils; the Women of the Moose, Chicago and South Bend; Eagles of Chicago; a former vice president of the Goldenagers of St. John Kanty; Happy Homemakers of LaPorte County; Peppy Pals of Chicago; and past president of the Hudson Lake Conservation Club.
