Violet June (Warstler) Brunson, 86, of Elkhart, died of congestive heart failure on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at 9:52 p.m. in Elkhart General Hospital.

Violet was born on Dec. 10, 1923, in Auburn to the late Ora Dale and Margaret (Oberlin) Warstler. She married Argyle Franklin Brunson on May 27, 1943, in Auburn. He died on Dec. 23, 1985.

Surviving are her sons, Gary W. Brunson and his wife Debra L. Rider of Elkhart and Arlen D. Brunson of New Orleans, La.; her two grandchildren, Andrew (Carrie) Brunson of Elkhart and Laura Brunson of Norman, Okla.; and one great-grandson, A.J. Brunson.

Three stepgrandchildren, Steven (Maria) Peacock of Mishawaka, Joshua Peacock of LaPorte and Noah Peacock of Austin, Texas, and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher and Edwin Peacock survive as well.

Violet was a 1941 graduate of Auburn High School and worked as a telephone operator in Auburn. She married Argyle after his return from the service during World War II. They lived and worked in Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio and Massachusetts prior to moving to Florida in 1972. She retired in the mid 1990s after working as a print shop specialist at the Ocean Reef Resort in Key Largo.

Violet made friends easily and had a wonderful sense of humor. She also had a love for animals having her own cats and dogs. She enjoyed playing the piano, card games, dominoes and Scrabble with her friends. She lived simply, courageously and with integrity. She will be missed by all who knew her.
