Violet Ann (Rahn) (Hanthorn) Kroening, of Bay City, passed away early Tuesday morning March 18, 2014 at Bay Special Care Hospital, age 74. The daughter of the late Albert H. and Nellie (Eckinger) Rahn was born February 23, 1940 in Bay City and has resided here all of her life. Violet was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and retired from Bay Metro Transit as an administrative assistant after twenty five years of service. She was an avid card player, enjoyed bus trips and planning the annual Bay Metro Picnic even after her retirement, Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived one son and daughter-in-law; David and Diane Hanthorn Tabernacle, NJ, four grandchildren; Jodi and Paul Wolff of Bay City, David Hanthorn II, Sara and Brian Miller  and Christian Hanthorn of New Jersey, two great grandchildren; Noah and Brandon Miller, two sisters and two brothers-in-law; Noreen and Walt Schuchardt and Nancy and Mark Anderson, one brother and sister-in-law; Howard and Doris Rahn, and four sisters-in-law, Rosemarie, Rose Marie, Verna, and Joann. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband; Richard “Duke” Neil Hanthorn in 1972, a son; Brian Neil Hanthorn in 2007, six brothers and two sisters-in-law; Harold, Herman and Gloria, Gerald, Albert Jr., Calvin and Richard and Willane Rahn and one sister and brother-in-law; Sophia and Ed Hawkins.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff McLaren Bay Region NICU, South 6 East, Bay Special Care, Dr. James Campau, and her caregivers, Jodi and Tom Leonard and Kay Grudzinski, for the kind and compassionate care they provided for Violet during the time they cared for her.
