My grandma came into this world on June 8, 1943. She was born in Desdunes, Haiti to two wonderful parents. She grew up a village girl and in her days it was more valuable to stay home and care for the house than it was to go to school. So she grew up fulfilling the role in society common for women at her time. Although she received little education she was wise in her ways and learned how to speak and count through experiences with family around her. Life has a way of teaching you valuable lessons that can never be taught in a classroom.
She was very knowledgeable on what we call street smarts. She knew a lot of home remedies, some of which she passed down to her daughters and will most likely be passed down to her grandchildren in some way or another.
My grandmother has four children in total. The oldest was a female who passed away during childhood. She gave birth to her oldest living child, Malherbe Jean-Baptiste, followed by Nelarette Jean-Baptiste, and her last child is Lorrina Jean-Baptiste.
Her three living children went on to have families and children of their own. My grandma has seven grandchildren in total; her first grandchild was Ashley Charles, followed by Valens St. Louis, Elton Jean- Baptiste, Vanessa St. Louis, Michna Jean-Baptiste, Aldens Charles, and her last grandchild is Tiana Jean-Baptiste.
Eventually, my grandmother came to the U.S by her children.
In 2018, My grandmother made her final trip to Haiti where she remained until she passed. The end of her life came with a lot of turns and toils in terms of her health but she endured for a while.
On November 23rd 2021, my grandmother made her exit out of this world into a new world of which we have yet to know of.
Although she is no longer here with us. She is still in our memories and in our hearts. To her children and grandchildren let us remember her every year and let us sit around today and share our memories of her. She did not have a career and no career in the world could have shown her to create a long lasting legacy or how to leave a stamp on this world through her descendants. May her soul find peace in our Saviors arms and may her health be restored to perfection where she is now.
