Victor Charles Sturgis, 64, of Palatka, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Putnam Community Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and spent most of his childhood between Brooklyn and Abergavenny, Wales, where he took up horseback riding. Victor lived in several cities before settling in Putnam County 6 years ago. He never met a stranger and had a larger-than-life attitude.
Victor loved his music and his cowboy hats, known to many as the Brooklyn Cowboy. He was a skilled carpenter and home builder. Victor also had a gift and love for working with animals, where he spent the last several years as the animal handler for Critter Caravan, along with his companion Louise Furman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and William Sturgis, and his sister, Carol.
He is survived by his children, Victor Sturgis, II (April), Brooke Moore (Roger), Grant Gay and Greg Gay, mother, Diana Sturgis, siblings, Michael Sturgis (Nancy), Billy Sturgis, Jacqui Sturgis, Lillian Sturgis (Aaron) and Kitty Sturgis as well as grandchildren, Alyssa and Nicholas Holden and Christian and Nathaniel Sturgis.
