Victor A. Petefish, 67, of rural Virginia, IL died Friday afternoon, August 29, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL as a result of injuries sustained in a farm accident.

He was born January 5, 1941 in Beardstown, IL; the son of William M. Sr. and Helen M. Ainsworth Petefish. He married Irene Schuldt Simmons on August 20, 1988 in Virginia, IL and she survives.

He is also survived by a son, David V. Petefish of Virginia; a daughter, Caroline Petefish of Springfield; a step son, Bill Simmons (wife, Paula) of Springfield; a step daughter, Cathy Judd (husband, Duane) of Springfield; three grandchildren, Ryan, Carson and Konnor Petefish, all of Canton; two step grandchildren, Elyse Simmons and Megan Judd, both of Springfield; a brother, William M. Petefish Jr. (wife, Judy) of East Peoria; a sister, Elizabeth Wiedman (husband, Scott) of Henry; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Petefish was a 1959 graduate of Virginia High School and attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He farmed in Cass County for many years and served on the Illinois Soybean Checkoff Board from 1996 to 2002. He was a Philadelphia Township Trustee and was a member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. He was a member of Virginia Lodge #544 AF & AM, Ansar Shrine, and Illinois Valley Shrine Club. An avid Fighting Illini football fan, he enjoyed history and traveling.
