Vickie Lynn Slaid Anders, 61, of South Jacksonville, IL passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield, IL after a long journey with ovarian cancer and perineoplastic syndrome.
She was born September 9, 1951, the daughter of Wesley Bert and Ruth Eleanor Jones Slaid.
She is survived by a son, Shaun Michael Anders (wife, Ginny and grandson, Atticus) of Springfield and a brother, Stephen Wayne Slaid of Jacksonville and his four children, John Wesley Slaid (wife, Adelfa and daughters, Samantha and Alexandra) of Lake St. Louis, MO, James Joseph Slaid of Seattle, WA, Kathryn Ann Slaid-Walter (daughters, Taylor and Alyssa) of Jacksonville, and Brian Andrew Peterson of Jacksonville. She is also survived by two aunts, Jeanette Bozeman and Kay Megginson; two uncles, Howard and Wendell Jones; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Debra Cors Slaid; and six uncles, Harold Slaid, James Bozeman, Stanley Jones, Willard Jones, Ernest Jones, and Harold Jones.
Vickie was a graduate of Jacksonville High School and Illinois College. She taught elementary grades in the North Greene School District for 35 years before retiring in 2009. She had an interest in family genealogy and was a former president of the North Greene Education Association.
