Vernon Woodrow Tome, 90 of Rising Sun, MD, died Sunday, November 15, 2009 in the Perry Point VA Medical Center, Perry Point, MD.

Born in Port Deposit, MD, on November 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Peter and the late Ella MacCauley Tome. He was the husband of the late Ruth “Pat” Callahan Tome who died in 1969.

He served his country during World War II in the Army. He was an Automotive Tech, retiring from Aberdeen Proving Ground and was a self employed dairy farmer.

Mr. Tome was a Charter Member of American Legion Mason Dixon Post #194, Rising Sun, MD, a member of Cecil County Horse & Pony Club, Boy Scouts of America, and Penn-Mar Racing Assoc. Stock Car Racing where he served as secretary and treasurer. He was the only male family member to graduate from Jacob Tome Institute.

Survivors include his children: Vernon D. Tome and his wife LaReda of North East, MD, E. Joyce Frazier of Carrollton, TX, Charles A. Tome and his wife Carolyn of Arlington, TX, and Sandy Jack and her husband Richard of Port Deposit, MD; and his brother: Howard B. Tome of Rising Sun, MD; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Baby Boy Tome, Peter L. Tome; his siblings, Jean Harrington, Doris Frist and Charles Tome; and his special friend, Violet Ball.
