Vernon Foster Freeman

Mr. Vernon Foster Freeman of Sheridan, Arkansas, age 92, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Freeman was born in Bradley County, Arkansas on October 4, 1918, and moved to Sheridan at an early age where he lived most of his adult life. Two and one half years ago, Mr. Freeman and his now late wife, the former Johnnie Lee Southerland, moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He had returned to Sheridan in July and was a resident at the Crown Point Assisted Living.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his wife, and a daughter, Zella Ruth Jordan; his parents Ola Simons and John Freeman; three brothers, Hollis Freeman, Ed Freeman and J.B. Freeman, and one nephew Boyd Freeman. He is survived by his son, John David Freeman; a granddaughter, Jodi Gelaro and her husband, Tommy all of Jacksonville, Florida; grandsons, Keith Freeman and Scott Freeman; Jeffery Freeman and his wife, Tracy; a great granddaughter, Jessica Gelaro of Jacksonville, Florida; son-in-law, Joe Jordan of Sheridan; a sister, Margie F. Burton and her husband, Eugene of Ruston, Louisiana; a sister-in-law, Demarise Freeman of Sheridan; a devoted niece, Jeanette F. Munds and her husband, Jim of Sheridan, seven nephews and three other nieces.

Mr. Freeman served in WW II in the Third Army under General George Patton. His artillery unit served in France, Luxembourg, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He was a federal government retiree.

Mr. Freeman was dedicated to the First Assembly of God Church in Sheridan where he was a member, and served on the official church board of Deacons for many years.
