Vera Ricketts October 20, 1915 – March 23, 2011

Vera Manley Slayton Ricketts, born October 20, 1915, to Alexander Alonza and Connie Shelton Manley, passed away peacefully March 23, 2011, with her loving family and friends surrounding her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a member of Third Baptist Church.

She is survived by Jo Ann Slayton Scott, Peggy Slayton Griffin (Jim), Brenda Slayton Cash; four grandchildren, Kent Lyle Sharpe (Joyce), Dr. Christopher Dennis Hoover (Julie), Dr. Carlton Edward Cash and Le Ann Stranne; five great grandchildren, Adam Kent Sharpe, Morgan Raye Sharpe, Scott Sigvard Stranne, Nicolas Lee Stranne, and Alexandria Faith Hoover; stepson, Louis Ricketts (Mildred); a special sister-in-law, Hazel Manley Towery,; and several nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by husbands, William Edward (Jack) Slayton and Andrew Ricketts; her parents; two sisters, Lena Chichester and Minta Lee Moore; two brothers, Oliver Manley and David Manley.

The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice (especially Wendy Lynn, R.N. and KK (Ko Ko) for their love, caring and support over the past year and Dianne Miller for her care and love the past few months. We would also like to thank our special friend and a person we consider family, Pam Baskins, who loved Mama and has always been there for her. Mama’s love and our love to our special friends and neighbors.
