Velma Ree Garthwait, 85, of Lebanon, born March 12, 1922, passed away on May 28, 2007. She was born Velma Ree Morgan, one of five children, the daughter of Charles Morgan, a share cropper in Rural Georgia and his wife Louella (Delk) Morgan. Velma is survived by four children: Two sons; Stephen Garthwait, of Lebanon, Ct., his children, Stephanie, Shannon and Stephen Jr.; Chaplain (Col) Stanley Garthwait, of Florida, his wife and her daughter in law, Ruth and their children, Rachel, Heather, and Stanley II.. Two daughters: Valerie Andrews of Lebanon, Ct, her children, Myriah Hinchey and Ethan; Kathryn Dzialo of Stafford Springs, Ct. her children Sarah, and Melody. She is survived by the children of her oldest deceased son, Charles Garthwait, formerly of Lebanon Ct, Chuckie., Dora, and Shauna, and her daughter in law, Jeannie Garthwait and her children, Lisa and Teresa. She is survived by one brother, Jack Morgan, and his wife Ila, of Georgia, a sister in law, Lillian Mary Kablik, of Lebanon, and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends, as well as 9 great grand children. Velma was a loving Mother, a homemaker and wife of the Late Kenneth A. Garthwait of Lebanon, Ct. They met in Georgia and were married before the World War 11 in 1941. She then moved to Connecticut and continued to call it her home for the rest of her life. While Kenneth was serving in the Air force they traveled and lived in England, California, Massachusetts, and Florida, always keeping a home in Lebanon. As well as traveling, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, singing country music and playing the guitar, cooking, and most of all being with her family. She always had a liberal and understanding way with people and was seldom critical and always helpful in solving problems. She enjoyed being with people her own age and was a member and former president of the Lebanon Seniors for some time. She was greatly loved by her family, extended family, friends and liked by everyone she met, and will be sorely missed.
