Velda Lee Deal Purdy, 86, of 450 Preston Road, Martinsville, VA died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. She was born on October 10, 1925 in Bassett, VA to the late James William Deal and Josie Lee Foley Deal Moran. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raford Raymond Purdy; sisters, Sarah Wootsie Deal Young McGhee, Virginia Hazel Gardner and Ruby May Deal Martin and infant brother, Cecil William Deal. Mrs. Purdy was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Martinsville, VA. She worked for E. I. DuPont, Inc., in the Spinnerets Lab, for 41 years before retiring. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Wayne Purdy and Cindy Purdy of Roanoke, VA; sister, Josie Inez Deal Owens of Rocky Mount, VA; grandchildren, Joshua Ryan Purdy and his wife, Lauren Purdy of Lebanon, Indiana and Sara Elizabeth Purdy Hester and her husband, Josh Hester of Roanoke, VA and great-grandchildren, Angelina Hester, Christina Hester and Brianna Hester.
