Velda (Janie) Haynes Brown age 87 died on March 17, 2016, a former resident of Anderson, Indiana and recent 42 years in Monroe, Louisiana. She graduated from Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana in 1947. She attended Indiana University, Anderson College, and N.L.U. in Monroe, LA.
She married Harold G. Brown in 1949. She operated a dance studio for 13 years in Pendleton and Anderson, Indiana. She then taught pre-school classes for the next 12 years in Anderson at the First United Methodist Church. After moving to Monroe, Louisiana in 1974 she taught pre-school and Kindergarten at First United Presbyterian Church, Little Red School House, and First United Methodist Church for 15 years until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monroe and Circle #4. She was an active member and past president of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Anderson, IN. For many years she was the organist at Fellowship Lodge for the order of the Eastern Star. After her retirement, she worked at North Monroe Hospital for 15 years with the Auxiliary Volunteer Services.
She was a member of Janet Golson’s “Silver Belles” dance group for 10 years. She enjoyed traveling in their motor home after retirement to all 50 states. She enjoyed being a member of Good Sam Travel Club and attended over 75 Samborees with her husband to all the states. Her LOVE of teaching children will be remembered and the LOVE of her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always felt twice Blessed by having twin Grandsons and twin Great Grandsons. Her parents Walter & Marmell Haynes, two sisters: Norma Jean Rockwell and Janet Huntzinger and husband Harold G. Brown, preceded her in death.
Survivors: a daughter, Denise Whalon; son-in-law, Mike Whalon of Lee’s Summit, MO; a son, Garry Brown; daughter-in-law, Brenda Brown of Brownsville, KY; a son, Brian Brown, daughter-in-law, Shawn Brown of Monroe, LA; ten grandchildren, Todd Whalon (Wife Kristine), Tren Whalon (Wife Rose), Katie Whalon, Jo Whalon (wife Taylor), Brandy Trotter, Breck Jackson (husband Tony), Bryce Brown, Blake Brown (wife Katelynn), Cory Borwn and Tiffany Brown; nine great grandchildren, Alex Whalon, Carter Whalon, Lincoln Whalon, Peyton Whalon, Reis Jackson, Gage Jackson, Case Jackson, Sawyer Trotter and Sloane Trotter.
Other survivors include a brother-in-law, Larry Huntzinger of Hot Springs Village, AR; nieces and nephews, David Rockwell, Becky Wimmer, James Rockwell, Mark Huntzinger, and Amy Mikkelson.
