Vanita was born on December 3, 1916 to Henry and Ida (Alewel) Martens in Higginsville, MO. Vanita was baptized at her home on December 7, 1916 and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Concordia, MO on March 29, 1931. She grew up on the family dairy farm. Vanita graduated from Concordia High School in 1941. She then attended Research Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. On November 6, 1944, Vanita was united in marriage to Gerhard E. Kamprath at Camp San Louis Obisbo, CA. Vanita worked as a nurse until her retirement in 1981 from the Seward Clinic. Vanita was active in her local congregations as the kindergarten Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the choir, ladies aid and LWML. She also made 101 quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Vanita enjoyed singing hymns and liturgy throughout her life. Vanita passed away on February 25, 2013 in Seward, NE at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 22 days. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Kamprath-Boelter, St. Louis, MO, Christine (Rev. Blake Duncan) Kamprath, Steeleville,IL, Elizabeth (David) Werner, Seward, NE, Margaret (Daniel) Raguse, Portland, OR; grandchildren, Kathryn Boelter-Dimock (Beth), Joshua (Amy) Boelter, John (Sarah) Werner, Jessica (Theron) Jenkins, Michael Werner (fiancée Bethany Kuhnle), Gretchen Raguse; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Louis, Samuel, Saoirse, Vivienne, Kathryn; sister, Ellen Muth, Glen Carbon, IL; sister-in-law, Miriam Martens, Concordia, MO. Vanita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerhard; granddaughter, Ruth Werner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Elmer Pinkepank, Esther and George Bodenstab; brother, Ervin Martens; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Marvalee Martens; brother-in-law, Darrel Muth.
