Val passed away peacefully on Monday November 16, 2015 at the age of 63. He was born on November 19, 1951 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late H. Victor Taylor and Madge (Whaling) Taylor, the sixth child of eleven children.

Val was united in marriage to his wife Deborah DeZeeuw who survives him. Val is survived by his children Ian Taylor, Devon Taylor, Tamela Toliver, Ontario Taylor and Takiyah (Tia) Taylor; ten grandchildren – Marcquintis, Yamar, Dorian, Jacari, Tajawon, Kiara, Jovon, Alexia, Jason and Donovan; three sisters Toni (Walter), Mildred (Alfred) Burch, Anita Taylor; four brothers Vincent (Lenore) Taylor, Tico (Vanetta) Taylor, Darrell Taylor, Orlando (Heather) Taylor as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers El Victor and Hector.

Val was educated in the Kalamazoo Public Schools. He worked for his father’s record label – La Val Records and was subsequently employed by Parker Hannifin/National Waterlift for 38 years. He was a boy’s soccer coach for 12 years for Kalamazoo AYSO and Kalamazoo Soccer Club – Ravens, coaching year round. Val was well known in the Kalamazoo/Portage soccer community for his team’s many victories both in the community and in the state. Coaching was his love and he will be remembered for his advocacy and development of young men of diverse backgrounds who went on to successfully play high school soccer.

Val displayed his love and faith in God in the dedication and loyalty he showed throughout his extended family. He loved to read, debate and make people laugh with his many jokes. He will be greatly missed.
