Urmila (Uma) Suryakant Bhatt was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend who touched the hearts of many all over the world.  Uma was born in Mombasa, Kenya on November 14, 1937.  Her family lived very modestly with 7 siblings in a 2-bedroom home.  In 1958 a social worker saw how hard Uma was working and encouraged her to apply for a nursing school in London, England.  She secured funds for Uma to travel to study midwifery.  As a midwife, Uma supported her extended family and sponsored them to come to England.  In 1972, she was sponsored by Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas for a nursing position which brought her husband Suryakant and 3 children to Dallas. After moving to Dallas, Uma worked tirelessly as an RN in various hospitals, in private duty, at Dallas County Immunization and in Home Healthcare.

Uma loved being a grandmother and would spend as much time as possible with her kids and grandkids.  In 2006, Suryakant Bhatt passed away from cancer.  Uma continued to live independently in Rowlett, TX, but would travel to visit her children and grandchildren around the country.

She always looked for a way to help the community from giving flu shots, checking in on friends, organizing for various nonprofits and volunteering for numerous causes.  Uma found a way to connect with everyone she met and made whomever she interacted with fell like the most important person in the world.  She will be greatly missed for her optimism, vitality, and passion for life.

Uma is survived by 4 children & 9 grandchildren: Rajkumar & Kahtia Bhatt; Seema & Himanshu Jani, Anand Jani, Malvi & Raj Desai, Shahil Jani; Tanuja & Sandeep Chhabra, Sarina Chhabra, Simran Chhabra, Savan Chhabra; Vivak & Sushri Bhatt, Anisa Bhatt, Asha Bhatt, Shan Bhatt.
