Una Marie Krupa

February 18, 1926 – April 8, 2012

Una Marie KrupaBay City, Michigan

When the Lord called your name, it broke our hearts, but we knew you were going home. Our mother, Una M. Krupa of Bay City, (formerly of Pinconning, MI) went to be with her Lord after a long illness. The former Una Coupie was born on Feb. 18, 1926, the 2nd of 8 children of Jerome and Henrietta Coupie. Her parents preceded her in death. She grew up in Arenac County, Michigan and attended the Saganning School before graduating from Pinconning High School.

Una met her future husband, Ben, at a dance at Worth Tavern. They were married on May 18, 1946. Ben was a career Naval officer, which meant that the couple and their growing family moved many times over the years, before settling down for good in Pinconning, MI. Una was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pinconning. After moving to Bay City, she attended Holy Trinity Church which was where Una and Ben had been married 65 years earlier. Ben passed away in Dec. 2010.

Una loved to go out on a Saturday night for a good meal and some dancing with Ben. Coming from a close knit family, she enjoyed spending time with her 6 sisters; playing cards, camping, or just getting together and having fun. The Coupie Girls were a silly bunch and their laughter was contagious. A lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, she loved to listen to or watch them play. And she wasn’t a fair weather fan. She loved them even in the lean years. Go Tigers!!! Una played a mean game of BINGO, and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles or going to the casino. After retirement, Una and Ben spent their winters in Brownsville, Texas for 18 years. They were members of the Winter Texans, a group of snowbirds from Michigan, and had many friends in that area as well as their hometown of Pinconning. After selling the family home in Pinconning, Una and Ben moved to Bay City to downsize and simplify their lives.

Una looked forward to the special times when her three daughters would plan a trip to Texas during the wintertime. She loved to take them to Mexico for some shopping or to the Dog race track.Una enjoyed traveling and went to Costa Rica to visit her son. Other trips took her to Colorado or Texas to visit her daughters. One special trip was with a group from Pinconning High School to Spain, Germany, and France.

Una and Bennie had 5 children: Sharon (Rev. Steve) Schilke of Bay City, Daniel Krupa, Michelle (Dr. Thomas) Charbeneau of Paris, Texas, Debra (Thomas) Kryzanowicz of Sanford, and Dennis Krupa. Una proudly welcomed 8 Grandchildren : Gabriel (Angela) Krupa of Frazier Park, CA, Mark (Rachel) Schilke of Flushing, Dawn Shea of Freeland, Jeff (Sakinah) Charbeneau of Chicago, IL,Andrea Charbeneau of Philadelphia, PA., Brianne Charbeneau of Galveston, TX., Bryan Kryzanowicz of Midland, and Kelly (Mike) Olsen of Chandler AZ. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and her 6 great-grandchildren: Jared, Allison, Tyler and Elizabeth Shea; Jacob and Joseph Schilke.

Awaiting Una’s arrival in Heaven are her husband Bennie, her two sons Daniel Krupa and Dennis Krupa, parents Jerome and Hennrietta Coupie, one brother; John Coupie, and one sister Patricia Johnstone. Rest in peace, Mom.
