Anthony ‘Tony’ Wayne Amosson, passed away suddenly on September 23, 2021, in Des Moines at the age of 55. Even though he was taken away much too soon, he made an impact on every single person that will stay with them – an impact that even a tragedy can’t take away.
Born in Webster City, Iowa on November 24, 1965, to Dave Amosson and Phyllis Tatham, Tony married Jean, the love of his life, a mere 19 years later on September 28, 1985. A graduate of Webster City High School (1984) and Iowa State University (1991), he taught in public schools for a few years, then went into the car business and retired in 2019.
Together, Jean and Tony built a life they loved – one that had them surrounded by family, and friends so close they were considered family. The two of them were truly best friends, and in spite of having to endure the loss of their two sons, they came out on the other side – setting an example for everyone who knew them.
Tony loved fiercely and those who had the pleasure of being on the receiving end of that love, knew that Tony would have done anything for them – no questions asked. He also would’ve done anything for a Cyclone win (especially in football), a Twins win or a Vikings win. A true lover of sports, he enjoyed golfing (though he’d be the first to tell you he wasn’t good), was a watcher of basically all sporting events, and could tailgate with the best of them – especially if said tailgate had Busch Light.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his two sons, Christopher and Jacob. It is quite likely that he was greeted by Chris and Jake upon his arrival in heaven. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sisters Tamara Amosson and Teresa (Tony) Tempel; brothers Kyle (Shannon) Goretska and Bill Goretska; some of the best in-laws a guy could ask for, an outrageous number of nieces and nephews that he treated like his own children, several great-nieces and nephews that he was constantly playing with and a ridiculous amount of amazing friends.
